Afterlife

from Stranger Than Fiction by Reaper

/

about

We would class this as the final song of the album and the piece after this as a prologue. Afterlife contemplates the themes of blind devotion to something beyond reasoning. The idea of holding out hope for a second chance at life is what makes those devoted so complacent within themselves. It ties up the themes of breaking from the ordinary, breaking from your habits, and learning to live on your own terms. Through accepting that death is integral to giving life purpose, the "character", if you like, gets THEIR second chance, almost like everything before their realisation was a past life and they are reborn. A great deal of the albums themes are tidied up in this track, but with one loose end left to complete.

lyrics

Cry for all
And seek your shelters
Or come with us
And see it to the end
We're on the edge
And clinging on for life
Be it strength or God, peace or fear
We are valley and mountain, the depth and the summit

Swallowed whole
And sanctified
Ghosts of cowardice
Don't stand behind us waiting for the fix
Shoulders face
A world unknown
You'll march towards the black or stall
And point your eyeless skulls towards the light

Refracting
Merciless and cold
The iris of a higher power
Chase us to the close

A state beyond a dream
With terror all too real
A guiding hand to what's beyond
Is yet to show itself

Don't hold hope
For rebirth
Spiral down
Into the Earth
Core is warm
And holding tight
Final sight
Of Afterlife

A blinding flash and searing heat
Colour seeps through the cracks
Embrace yourself from everything to never
A second chance to live forever

What seems to be the final frontier
Colour seeps through the cracks
Embrace yourself from everything to never
A second chance to live forever
